Titanic… Is History Getting Ready to Repeat Itself?

I’m one of those History Geeks that remembers the anniversary of the Titanic every year… (and that was even before the movie came out).  I’m amazed at how I still find myself drawing lessons from this complex human drama and tragedy that unfolded 99 years ago on the 14th and 15th of April 1912.

This morning I was struck by the thought that as Americans we are approaching a “Full Circle” moment in History.  The thing that sunk the Titanic 99 years ago truly was the Ice Burg in the freezing cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean.  However, what actually sealed it’s doom and administered its “Death Blow” was the arrogance of man at the turn of the century that had lulled him into a false sense of well being; believing that we through all of our knowledge and superiority were impenetrable and invincible.

Could it be that we’ve come Full Circle almost 100 years later.  As American have we considered that perhaps we ourselves are sailing full steam ahead on a Titanic Ship called the United States of America?  Are we still so foolish and arrogant enough to believe that the USA is unsinkable?  Have we been lulled into a false sense of well being through pride, in believing that we’re invincible?  Are we so enamored with wealth, entertainment and activities that this ship provides that we’ve lost sight to the reality that we are vulnerable to obstacles that are in our path that are waiting for the chance to take us down?

In the way they could have avoided their collision course I believe we can avoid ours through WATCHING, PRAYING, and ACTION.  Watching can spot the ice burgs ahead to avoid them… Prayer can turn the rudders on big ships… and Action can prepare us for the times we find ourselves living in.

Am I a “doom and gloomer”?  Absolutely Not!  However, I am a realist and a lover of history; and I have to ask myself as we’ve just hit the 99 year mark of the sinking of the Titanic and are now heading towards 100…  Are there still lessons to be learned from this moment in History?  And perhaps an even more important question to ask ourselves is this… Is History Getting Ready To Repeat Itself?

I believe the Captain of our ship is calling: All Hands On Deck and would all Heroes and Patriots that have been appointed by God for such a time as this please begin to make themselves known and step into this moment of history that you were created for!
